Steamboat Days 2015 Harbormaster Named

Kathy Hovell 2015 Harbormaster and Dave Grewe 2014 Harbormaster

typical fashion they, along with Past Harbormasters and friends of the new Harbormaster tip toed in and surprised Kathy Hovell after she finished her 6am workout class.

As his last official act as Harbormaster 2014, Dave Grewe “capped” Kathy and read the nomination statement:

Kathy Hovell is a runner.  However, she takes in a few steps further!  For years she has helped coordinate and support 10 or more road races throughout the year in the Winona area.

Kathy has coordinated more than twenty road races for the Goodview Gallop.   She is now involved with the annual Warrior Waddle and has been the organizer along with Tom Slaggie since it started five years ago.  Road races take a year of planning and organizing with endless volunteer hours.  They are very time-consuming but with Kathy and her sidekick, Tom, working together, the races are well attended and successful.    Most of the races she has been involved with are fund raisers for charities which is a passion for Kathy.

For years, Kathy has been in a coordinator of the Goodview Days Women’s Softball Tournament.

She has taught exercise classes at the YMCA since the 1980’s.  She continues to volunteer time for some of these classes as she has since she started.

Another example of her dedication is her involvement with Steamboat Days.  Each year Kathy sells at least 50 buttons and hosts the Grande parade judges.

Kathy is always eager to help wherever she is needed.

Kathy is very humble, enthusiastic, devoted and remarkable with managing.     She gives endless energy in fundraising for various causes including, cancer, military and education.

It is with great honor that we “cap”  Kathy  Hovell as our 2015 Steamboat Days Harbormaster.

You will be able to see Kathy at several events during Steamboat Days including on the Kiddie Parade Friday, June 19th and on the Steamboat Days Float in the Grande Parade Sunday, June 21st .

Steamboat Days buttons will be for sale at area businesses and convenient stores for $5.00 beginning Tuesday, June 19th.  For more information go to www.winonasteamboatdays.com.  Button sales help support events such as the Fireworks and Grande Parade!
