The Winona Steamboat Days Festival Committee is seeking nominations for Miss Steamboat Days 2012! The selected Queen and her attendant will represent the Winona community and our summer celebration not only during Steamboat Days, but also throughout the year at other regional celebrations and in their parades.

Completing the application for a possible interview is required and is the first step in the process to winning a $500 or $250 scholarship plus other cash opportunities. The Steamboat Days Queen committee will be interviewing selected contestants for a 5 minute, personal interview in late May in Winona City Hall.

The Winona Steamboat Days queen and attendant will be honored at the Steamboat Days kickoff event and Harbormaster Reception Wednesday, June 13th in the Beverage Garden at the foot of Walnut Street. Along with the Harbormaster the Miss Steamboat Days royalty will also participate in the Kiddie Parade on Friday June 15 and the Grand Parade on Sunday, June 17 along with other official duties.

Qualifications for contestants are as follows:

• Must be a High School student (Junior or Senior) in the fall of 2012.
• Must be a student at Winona Senior High, Cotter High or Hope Lutheran or home schooled within District 861.
• Must be a student in good academic standing.
• Must complete the application questions AND submit a photograph for the press.
• Must have a flexible schedule to attend appearances as requested by committee.
• Each contestant will have a maximum of a five (5) minutes before the judges. The contestant will answer impromptu questions asked by the judges during the entire interview.
• Qualities of a good interview: sincerity, honesty, poise, ability to articulate, relaxed and self-confident. Choose your very best style and color for your interview.

Winona Steamboat Days Festival is seeking candidates for the Captain and Mate Contest to be held in conjunction with the Winona Park Rec Kiddie Parade on Friday – June 15, 2012.

Qualifications for contestants are as follows:

1. Each child must be between the ages of 4 and 7 on or before June 1, 2012.
2. Each entry must be a couple consisting of a boy and a girl.
3. Each child must be a resident of the city of Winona, MN. Surrounding areas are ineligible.
4. Top five finalists from previous Captain and Mates are not eligible.
5. Children must be available for Steamboat Days Kiddie Parade on Friday June 15th in the
6. morning and the Grand Parade on Sunday June 17th.

The Big Winner of the Winona Steamboat Days Button Card drawing is Barb Pellowski of Winona. We-no-nah Canoe has donated a canoe as the Grand Prize drawing since the button card started as part of the Steamboat Days Button pre sales in 2001. Barb is pictured with her fiancée Gregg Johnson.  They will be married in July – and maybe a canoe trip will be part of their  honey moon!?!
